If an Alien from outer space landed in your back Garden, after you had greeted each other, you might ask him would he like a smoke/ A smoke he would inquire, what is that? So you would produce a cigarette from your packet and show him. Looking rather puzzled your new Alien friend would ask what he was supposed to do with it. Well, you say, you hold it between your lips and carefully set fire to it. Once it is properly on fire you would suck the smoke deeply into your lungs. You may even warn him that at first because the smoke is both hot and poisonous it may make you cough quite badly or you may feel sick. But you tell him not to worry after smoking a few you will start to get used to it. You go on to tell him that if he continues smoking, which he will be likely to do as cigarettes contain Nicotine one of the most addictive substances on our planet, He will develop a horrible cough, he will be short of breath and he will stink. Then just to really sell it to him you tell him that he will be at risk of many diseases including at least 15 different kinds of cancer.
Your new alien friend is now looking quite shocked, so why do you smoke? he asks. You confidently reply…..for pleasure!!
Yes, the old ones are the best aren’t they, but the point I am trying to make here is that I know, being an ex-smoker myself that most smokers kid themselves that they enjoy it.
When someone comes to see me to stop smoking the first thing, I ask them is what they enjoy about smoking, and to tell me what I am missing as an ex-smoker.
Once someone has realised that they don’t actually enjoy smoking, the hypnotherapy can help them to stop with ease. The even better news is that they will only need one session.
The first thing to consider when choosing a hypnotherapist is the practitioner’s qualifications. Look for a degree qualified mental health care professional — such as a psychologist, psychotherapist, psychiatric nurse practitioner, counsellor, social worker, or medical doctor — who is also a hypnotherapist. Unfortunately, there are many therapists advertising who have nothing more than an online qualification, they will usually claim to have either a diploma or certificate in Hypnotherapy, these are not recognised qualifications. You can also ask if they’re affiliated with any professional associations, such as the International Hypnotherapy Association.
If for example, a hypnotist uncovers trauma while doing hypnotherapy, they need to know how to treat trauma. In other words, having the education and training to diagnose and treat mental health conditions ,which comes from being a degree qualified Psychologist is a key component in the success of hypnotherapy and of course your safety.
