Hypnosis for weight loss can be an effective way of challenging unhelpful mindsets that may be subconsciously (or consciously) decreasing the chances of successfully losing weight.

According to the latest statistics, nearly two-thirds (62.8%) of adults in the UK are overweight or obese. With the average person trying 126 fad diets over the course of their lifetime, it’s no wonder so many people are desperate to find a way of losing weight that not only works but is sustainable long-term, this is where hypnosis for weight loss can help.

When undertaken with the help of a professional, qualified hypnotherapist such as Dr David Postlethwaite, with experience in hypnosis for weight loss, a person can learn to overcome moments of temptation and challenge unhealthy or unhelpful thought processes to live a happier, healthier life.

Losing weight can be a long and difficult process that isn’t made any easier by conflicting, often dangerous advice we are constantly bombarded with through social media, advertising, and entertainment. There are so many products and adverts pushing weight loss pills and other commercial weight-reducing programmes which focus on restricting what one eats, rather than looking at how to eat or what to think about food. It’s no surprise that some of us develop negative mindsets around what, how, and even when to eat.

Hypnosis for weight loss aims to help my client feel more confident about their body, change negative thoughts about eating, and help them to lose weight responsibly and sustainably – without negatively impacting their emotional well-being. By targeting the unconscious mind with powerful suggestion techniques, I can help them develop a more positive relationship with food and exercise, both of which are key to healthy, long-term weight loss and management.

Do I need to lose weight?

A lot of people insist they need to lose weight, whether they’re overweight or not. But the truth is, very few people are happy with the shape and size of their bodies, regardless of whether they need to lose weight.

Understanding what a healthy weight is for their height and age can be a good place to start (though there are many debates around how helpful BMI measurements are in relation to health). Remember to consider your physical activity levels as well. The NHS recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity, or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity a week, spread evenly across at least four to five days.

Before someone begins a weight loss journey (or take the next step), it’s worth asking themselves why they feel you want or need to lose weight. Is it to improve their health? Has a medical professional recommended weight loss? Or are they worried about what others may think about them?

Body confidence

While it is important for people to lose weight for health reasons if they are overweight, it’s not good to feel ashamed about the need or desire to lose weight. Because body shape and size are so tied in with the western ideal of beauty, people are constantly looking for ‘quick fixes’ to cut corners.

Weight loss pills, fad diets and gruelling exercise regimes are just some of the ways people try to lose weight. What they must ask themself is – are they happy doing this? Can they carry on doing this for the rest of their life?

This is where hypnosis for weight loss can help. To change their body, they need to first change their mind. they have to ask themselves – why they are unhappy with their body, and why can’t they lose weight?

What is hypnosis for weight loss?

In essence, hypnosis for weight loss is the therapeutic use of hypnosis to help facilitate changes in habits and mindset to help a person change unwanted thoughts, behaviours, or emotions that may be impacting what and how they eat.

Using hypnosis I will put my client into a state of deep relaxation, I uses tried and trusted techniques to help change thought patterns, help them to understand why they may struggle to maintain or lose weight, as well as to recognise ways they might be

Does hypnosis for weight loss work?

One of the most commonly asked questions in hypnotherapy consultations is: will hypnosis for weight loss work for me? The answer to that is, it’s hard to know until they try it themselves While it certainly won’t work in the same way for everyone, the process of talking about developing good habits, and getting rid of bad habits, should help plant a new level of awareness when it comes to food and exercise. I have found that 97% of my clients report a significant improvement in their eating habits and subsequent weight loss.

For sustained weight loss, hypnotherapy should be used alongside a healthy eating plan and exercise regime. If anyone wants advice about eating better and exercising, they may find it useful to speak to your doctor or a nutrition professional. It is often a combined effort of all these things that lead to success.

Research has shown that hypnosis for weight loss may offer a more effective weight loss option than diet and exercise alone. Studies have looked at the impact of diet advice alone for weight loss, compared to hypnosis for weight loss. While all participants lost weight, those who undertook hypnotherapy lost more on average, warranting further research into hypnotherapy as a potential treatment option for obesity.

Hypnotherapy has the capacity to work for most people, but it’s important to remember that some of us are more susceptible to suggestion than others. In order to get the most out of any form of hypnosis, it’s important to be fully committed to the process, keep an open mind, be open to change, and to work with a hypnotherapist you feel you can trust. Scepticism can subconsciously decrease your susceptibility.

How does hypnosis for weight loss work?

Hypnosis for weight loss is becoming increasingly popular. People all over the world are finding it helpful for maintaining a healthy weight in the long term. With just one session and with the help of an experienced hypnotherapist such as myself, my clients will learn how to replace negative habits, thoughts, and eating patterns with more positive ones.

Hypnosis for weight loss works by helping you to redefine and reshape my clients relationship with and attitudes towards food and eating. For many, it can offer a sense of relief and lessen stress or tension around food and eating. Hypnotherapy can help them to break down attachments or unhealthy methods of coping that they may have subconsciously formed with food, helping them to recognise these unhelpful thoughts and processes.

It can also help them to learn how to reframe their approach to weight loss. Instead of viewing the process as ‘hard’, ‘impossible’, or ‘bound to fail’, I will help them to gain a clearer picture of their motivations for wanting to lose weight, helping them to become more focused and to stay motivated.

For example, they may think you want to lose weight to ‘look better’ – but that alone may not be a strong enough motivator. Why do they want to ‘look better’ – do they want to feel better? Is their confidence low? Are they worrying that their appearance may be impacting their career progression, their romantic relationships, or even influencing how their children’s own relationships with food are developing? Through better understanding why they want to lose weight, I will help them towards achieving their goal.

Hypnotherapy can help you with many issues, stopping smoking, losing weight, beating stress, anxiety, depression overcoming a fear or phobia, beating dependencies and addictions and all can be helped with only one session.

What’s involved hypnosis for weight loss?

The process of hypnosis involves entering a deeply relaxed but focused state (like that of daydreaming, it is a little like being in a boring lesson at school, being aware of the teacher talking, being aware of what the child behind is doing, but one’s thoughts being somewhere else). Once in this state, it involves making suggestions for the subconscious mind to accept.
