Pain relief hypnosis, chronic pain is a complicated issue

Pain relief hypnosis
Manage pain with just one session

that can be difficult for established medicine to treat. Sometimes, a range of varying approaches are needed to help reduce pain, improve a sufferer’s independence and help them to cope with the psychological impact. Here I will look at chronic pain management and, how pain relief hypnosis can help.

Medical science tells us that there are two different types of pain – acute and chronic pain. Acute pain (sometimes called short-term pain) is often the result of an accident or short-term illness. In this instance, your GP may make a diagnosis and suggest ways to manage the pain (most often pain killers). However chronic, sometimes referred to as long-term pain is usually more complex. The pain may be a result of a long-term medical condition, or perhaps there may not be any immediately diagnosable cause. But this doesn’t mean the pain isn’t real, it just makes treatment that much more difficult.

If you are experiencing pain, I would always advise my client in the first instance to see their doctor. They will hopefully investigate thoroughly to find out what is causing it and the best options to treat it. A growing number of medical practitioners will suggest pain relief hypnosis as way of managing their patients pain. Some illnesses and conditions are renowned for causing pain including the following:

Arthritis

Arthritis is a painful and disabling condition that causes inflammation and stiffening of the joints. Depending on the severity, the pain can be mild or severe, making day-to-day life difficult.

Cancer

Unfortunately, most people who have cancer will experience pain. This may be because of the tumours themselves, or the actual treatment used to combat the cancer. The level and severity of the pain will be determined by the persons own circumstances.

Cluster headaches and migraines

Cluster headaches cause sudden, sharp pains in the patients’ head and can last anything from minutes to many hours. As their name implies, the headaches tend to come in clusters, resulting in the sufferer experiencing a great deal of pain.

Migraines are an extremely painful form of a headache they can result in vomiting and sensitivity to light and sound. If someone suffers with migraines on a regular basis, their doctor may prescribe medication, or more enlightened practitioner may suggest the benefits of pain relief hypnosis.

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)

This condition usually occurs after an injury has happened. The ongoing and sustained pain follows the injury and tends to be disproportionate to the actual injury again this can  be often managed with pain relief hypnosis.

Endometriosis

This gynaecological condition occurs when cells similar to those found normally in the womb are present in other parts of the body. For the fortunate few, the condition is painless. The unfortunate majority however experience severe pelvic pain coupled with severe period pain and pain during/after sex.

Fibromyalgia

The cause of fibromyalgia are still largely misunderstood and unknown. It presents as widespread aches with muscles feeling stiff. Painkillers, physical therapy and relaxation therapies such as pain relief hypnosis are normally advised.

Multiple sclerosis (MS)

MS is a condition that adversely affects the brain, nerves and spinal cord. Many those with MS will experience disabling levels of pain. This can either be musculoskeletal due to pressure on muscles/joints or neuropathic, where damaged nerve fibres cause a burning/stabbing sensation.

Sciatica and back pain

Sciatica is seen when the sciatic nerve is irritated by the back (this can happen after a slipped disc). This manifests itself as an ache down the leg. Other forms of back pain can be caused by previous injury or strain of the muscles.

Pain management

If someone experience pain on a regular basis, it’s important to consider how to manage their pain. It may be tempting to lie in bed and not move, in the majority of cases this would makes things worse. Inactivity can make their body stiffen up and over a period they will lose strength. This in turn can then affect their sleep and emotional well-being.

If they can, they should try to stay as active as possible. Gentle exercise can stimulate a natural form of pain relief. In all cases make sure the person consults their doctor to find out which exercises they can do safely. Look for something that won’t put too much strain on their body such as: walking yoga or swimming.

Sometimes just getting up and being active is enough. They should listen to their body and don’t overexert themselves. The majority people suffering with chronic conditions require some form of physical therapy. This will be carried out by medical professionals as part of their treatment regime . Physical therapy will involve stretching exercises, manipulation and other pain relief exercise.

Painkillers often form part of a chronic pain management plan. A doctor should always advise on this. Painkillers can be effective; however, it is important to use them safely as they can have some scary side effects. Another important aspect of pain management involves looking at the link between the body and mind.

Pain relief hypnosis

Pain relief hypnosis often recommended for those dealing with long-term pain. Stress and anxiety are commonly associated with pain and can even make the pain feel worse. The way the mind responds to pain also has a bearing on the perception of physical pain. Therefore methods such as pain relief hypnosis can Help to reduce stress and change the emotional patterns related to pain this can therefore have a positive benefit to pain perception. For this, many opt for pain relief hypnosis..

When my client is under hypnosis I encourage them to focus on relaxation and letting go of distracting thoughts. This has the effect of temporarily tuning out the conscious part of their mind, opening them up to the power of suggestion. At this point, I will make suggestions to encourage pain relief. I will also give post-hypnotic suggestions, allowing them to carry out self-hypnosis after the end of your sessions.

I certainly won’t try convincing my client that your pain doesn’t exist, hypnosis for pain aims to manage the fear and emotional anxiety they may have relating to their pain. It also helps to reduce stress, anxiety and so doing relax the nervous system to help it become less reactive to pain.

I will use pain relief hypnosis also refocuses the mind away from the sensation of pain and onto something more pleasant. For example, I may ask my client to imagine that you’re somewhere nice, like a beach. Thinking about what the sea looks like, the warmth of the sun and the feeling of sand between their toes can help to distract them from their pain.

Some therapists, those with rather dubious qualifications may try and convince prospective clients that you are going to need multiple sessions, however this is a falsehood, I only need to see my client once. After your face to face session I will give you a recording for you to use at home so you can continue to use hypnosis.

Pain relief hypnosis will involve visualisations to help the subject decrease the intensity of the pain they feel. For example, IBS ‘gut-directed hypnotherapy’ involves using visualisations to calm the gut and digestive systems.

Pain relief hypnosis

When someone is in pain their body will tense up. This exaggerates the pain sensation, continuing the cycle of stress, anxiety, fear, and pain. Pain relief hypnosis can help to alleviate this. When my subject is relaxed mentally, their bodies follow.

Pain and mental health

If someone has to live with pain on a daily basis  it can be incredibly difficult – both physically and emotionally. Having to cope with long-term conditions like this can lead to increased levels of anxiety insomnia and even depression.

Anxiety

If a person suffers from chronic pain, they may find they experience anxiety symptoms. They may worry about the feelings of pain and what it means, or they may anticipate pain. Suffering anxiety can increase the perception of pain as they become more stressed and focused on the pain. Hypnosis for pain deals this very issue. By helping the mind to react differently to the pain, anxiety levels subside.

Depression

When in pain the sufferer typically feels a great deal of negativity. They may think about how bad they’re feeling or wondering ‘why me?’. This type of thinking may lead to depression. This mental health condition affects quality of life and can become very serious.

Insomnia

When a person is in physical pain, relaxing and falling asleep can become extremely difficult. In some cases, it can lead to sleeplessness or insomnia. Sleep is important as it gives our minds and bodies time to recover from the day – something that is often especially important to those with chronic pain conditions.

When choosing a hypnotherapist it is very important that you find a reputable and qualified therapist who is a member of and governed by the ethics ad standards of the International Hypnotherapy Association.

    Hypnotherapy Weight Control

    Hypnotherapy Weight Control

Hypnotherapy can be a very effective way of changing someone’s eating habits and in that process help them to lose weight.

The first question that I am usually asked is what will I actually do. Well what I am not going to do is try and tell you that I have fitted some type of virtual gastric band, that is a complete scam! One of the basic rules of Hypnosis is that any suggestion given must be believable ae you going to believe that I have somehow magically been into your stomach and fitted a band? Of course not! What I am going to do is just gently and naturally change your relationship with food, what you lie to eat and how much you like to eat and it is a relatively simple process:

    1. You will come to see me in my Gateshead consulting room, we will have a chat, I will find out a little about you, your life and of course your relationship with food.
    2. Based upon what I have just found out I would then give you a face to face session of Hypnotherapy.
    3. After the session I would then give you a back up session in the form of either USB or electronic download.  I do this because some therapists will try and deceive you into thinking you need multiple sessions, which usually means they are just going ton keep repeating the first session, I prefer to be honest and give you the session to use yourself.
    4. You now eat whatever you want….but what you want will change!

      Free Hypnotherapy

I have included a free Hypnotherapy sample on this page so that you can experience for your self the incredible sensation.

Hypnotherapy is a type of therapy that uses hypnosis, which is an altered state of consciousness. At no time during the session, are you in a trance. You are aware of your surroundings at all times’ will guide you into a very relaxed state of mind.

So that you can experience what it is like to be in the state of Hypnosis, I have included a free sample session here.

      Instructions for use

Warning this audio track will induce you into a state of relaxation, Do not use while driving or operating machinery. Make sure you are lying down or sitting comfortably. The Session will last for about 20 minutes.

      And enjoy!!

      Free Hypnotherapy
Live your life the way you want to live!

Hypnosis is widely promoted as a treatment for various long-term conditions and for breaking certain habits.

Hypnosis does affect, though scientists disagree about how it works. Some experts see it as a relaxation technique that uses the power of suggestion, and this is the view that I subscribe to.

Unfortunately, there are some therapists that make rather spurious claims about what can be achieved with Hypnotherapy. I have even seen some who claim to cure cancer, and I make no such claims.

With Hypnotherapy, I can help anyone to:

      • Quit Smoking with ease
      • Control weight sensibly
      • Overcome Phobias safely
      • Deal with Stress and Anxiety
      • Break Habits
      • Self Esteem
      • Depression
      • Stress-related disorders

If you would like further information about how the awesome power of Hypnotherapy can help, then please feel free to contact me. I will be more than happy to discuss your issues and problems in complete confidence and without obligation.

      Stop Smoking

      Home

      Hypnotherapy Stop Smoking

Hypnotherapy can make quitting smoking a relatively easy way of quitting smoking once and for all. A question that I am often asked is can you make me stop smoking and my answer is and always will be NO! Adults have free choice, the only way I could stop a person smoking is if I tied them up and gagged them, but that is frowned upon!

However if a person genuinely wants to stop smoking then Hypnotherapy can be a fantastic tool making the whole process of quitting much more manageable. I am an ex  smoker myself, I used too smoke in excess of sixty cigarettes a day. I had tried all the methods available at that time, patches, gum, medicines and even acupuncture and nothing could help me quit. I still smoked when I first qualified as a Hypnotherapist! Then one day, I decided to try it for myself, the first day I wanted a cigarette and I knew it…but there was something different, I knew I was coping, I wasn’t banging doors or shouting at the children, I was getting quite a good feeling at knowing I was doing it! That was twenty eight years ago and I have never smoked since.

      The process is relatively simple:

      1. You will come to see me in my Gateshead consulting room, we would have a chat, I would find out a little about you, your life and of course your relationship with cigarettes.
      2. Based upon what I found out I would then give you a face to  face session of Hypnotherapy.
      3. After the session I would give you a back up session on USB or electronic download for your own use. (unlike some other poorly qualified or dishonest therapists I wont convince you to come back for multiple unnecessary sessions, you will take your session away with you.)
      4. You will leave my office to start your new life as an ex-smoker.

        Phobias and Fears

        Home

        Hypnotherapy for Fears and Phobias

If you were to observe a new baby you will notice they have no fears put a snake in amongst their toys  and they will play with it, place them on a virtual cliff and they will gleefully crawl over it, they have no fears (I m not suggesting for one moment that you try this at home). Indeed a Psychologist called Watson working in the 1920’s conditioned a two year old boy to be afraid of his favourite soft toy.

So it therefore stands to reason that if fears and phobias are learnt then they can be equally unlearnt. Hypnotherapy can help a person to  unlearn their fear or phobia with just one session.

        The process is relatively simple:

        1. You will come to see me in my Gateshead consulting room, we would have a chat, I would find out a little about you, your life and of course your fear or phobia and how it impacts on your life.
        4. You wont leave my office shouting Yippee I am cured, rather over the coming days your fear will begin to subside. You should notice small changes within about a week and most people report that they have completely overcome their fear or phobia within three to four weeks.

          Hypnotherapy – Stress and Anxiety

          Hypnotherapy for stress and anxiety

Hypnotherapy is an excellent way of managing and overcoming stress or anxiety. Stress can manifest itself in many ways, it can make a person feel anxious or depressed, it can affect their feelings of self worth, and in severe cases can cause real physical illness. Many digestive disorders are often caused or aggravated by stress. Research has shown that when the human body is subjected to stress then the number of T cells is significantly reduced, T  cells are extremely important for our ongoing health as they form an integral part of our immune system. There is research evidence that high levels of stress and low T Cells have been linked to cancer,

When the human mind is taken into a state of hypnosis the body enters a state of relaxation, this relaxation alone will have a positive affect on the body’s stress level, coupled with powerful positive suggestions this can bring about positive lasting changes.

          The process is relatively simple:

          1. You will come to see me in my Gateshead consulting room, we would have a chat, I would find out a little about you, your life and of course  how stress and anxiety are impacting on your life..
          2. Based upon what I found out I would then give you a face to  face session of Hypnotherapy.

          4. You will leave my office and day by day your stress will reduce, you would notice changes within days and be completely free from dangerous stress within three to four weeks..
